June 2, 2006, Newsletter Issue #20: Custom Mattress

Tip of the Week

The reality is that we all have different preferences for what we like to sleep on. In some cases, a conventional twin, queen or king size mattress might not be quite right for our needs. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if the ability to create custom mattress was not the exception, but the norm? The idea of building a custom mattress is just beginning to enter the main stream through the impressive new technologies of latex foam, memory foam and polyurethane foam. One of the laudable advantages of working with foam beds is that creating a custom mattress is an easy task. With foam you can not only create a custom size, but you can also create custom foam layers, even creating a different type of support for a his and her side situation. Memory foam, latex foam and polyurethane can all be interchanged to make the most comfortable and price effective custom mattress, and while there are many pre-engineered foam mattress combinations available, in the end, sometimes it’s you that knows your needs best. A custom mattress also has numerous uses for awkward spaces like those found in a boat or an RV, and the anti-mold, anti-mildew properties of most conventional foams make having a long-lasting mattress in these spaces more feasible.
